Why write love letters to your children?

Many people have asked me why I went to such lengths to write my book Love Mommy: Writing Love Letters To Your Baby, (published by ECW PRESS in MAY 2007), and I guess I felt compelled to do it because I felt overwhelmed with love, And as I say, if I were a dancer, I would have created some choreograhphy to describe the kaleidoscope of emotions I was feeling. But I am a writer, so writing it down seemed to be the most natural thing to do. Over time, I worked on the book for eight and a half years, the writings started to take the shape of these love letters. I remember someone saying to me, You don't write love letters to a child. That's something you do when you're "in love", in a romantic relationship as it were. I totally disagreed. Because I don't know about you, but this is the most holy love of all, it is such an unconditional kind of love, but it is one of the most powerful loves there are.
How would you describe the love you feel for your child? I'd love to hear from you. Please write to me.

Love,
Mommy

I just heard someone say how it all happens so quickly and before you know it, they're teengagers or they're getting married. Where does the time go? So I think writing these letters is a great idea, because you can look back on those precious early years whenever you get nostalgic and relive it all over again.
